Here at Dr. Gabhart’s, we talk a lot about your smile. Straightening it, whitening it, keeping it cavity-free (we even made a music video about that last one).
But none of our hard work is worth it if you don’t actually smile!
As we leave winter behind and bloom into springtime, we’ve compiled four reasons for you to make smiling the most important part of your daily dental hygiene routine.
- Smiling can actually improve your mood. When you smile, your body releases the neurotransmitters dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin. These are basically a little mini-chemical party that can actually change your mood, help bring your stress level down, and act as a pain reliever for your body. What’s not to love about that?
- Your smile is contagious. If you’re familiar with the sensation of “receiving” a yawn or hiccup from someone around you, you may be surprised to find out smiles are the same way! Not only is catching a smile on the outside a possibility, but our bodies actually work from the inside using the brain’s cingulate cortex to automatically and involuntarily mimic another person’s smile. I smile, you smile, we all smile!
- Smiling keeps your face looking young. Nevermind about your teeth; your whole face will look great if are a consistent smiler! (Okay, your teeth are still super important…but we digress.) Studies have shown that people who are smiling are viewed as younger, friendlier, and even more attractive than people who aren’t. Who doesn’t want that?
- Smiling helps show off your pearly whites! At Dr. Gabhart’s, our mission is to help you and your family to have healthy, confident, beautiful smiles. We love to see patients showing off their smiles, even if they are works in progress. Sure, your teeth might need a little bit of cosmetic help or there, but nothing can replace the beauty of your truest, most confident smile!
So shed your winter frowns and smile! Spring is also a great time to schedule an appointment for your regular cleaning or a consultation with Dr. Gabhart about your dental routine. We’re smiling just thinking about it. Are you?
